What's Similar
The 2019 and 2018 Jetta do not share many features inside or out, but one obvious similarity does stick out: the base 1.4L turbocharged I4 engine. With roughly the same horsepower and torque figures, these sequential model years have nearly parallel performance figures. Outside of this, and the identical five passenger seating capacity, these two Jetta models do not have any other significant resemblances.
What's Different
In this comparison, the better questions to ask is "What isn't different?" as these successive models have very little in common with each other. The 2019 Jetta is larger is every sense, with a longer, wider, and taller body, coupled with a more expansive cabin. A new architecture, known as MQB, has also been added to the 2019 Jetta. The MQB architecture is a homogenous-yet-modular platform that all future VW models will rely on.
The exterior has been completely restyled, with a different grille, more distinct bodylines, and a host of new accents. The new Jetta has also been graced with advanced technology, a new suite of driver assist features, and upholstery design that sees a major upgrade.
While performance figures for the base engine remain roughly the same, the 2019 Jetta sees a slight uptick in fuel efficiency, as well as a new 6-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic transmission.
